Noel Clarke has been arrested by Metropolitan Police officers at his family home in London, according to reports.
Scotland Yard raided the actor’s address in Kensington and Chelsea, remaining on the scene for approximately five hours, according to the Sun.
It comes just days after a judge ordered the former Doctor Who star, 49, to pay The Guardian £3 million in legal fees.
The newspaper successfully defended Clarke’s libel claim following a 2021 investigation, in which he was accused of sexual misconduct by more than 20 women.
Officers were seen leaving the BAFTA winner’s house with boxes apparently containing a laptop and documents.
It is understood that a Met investigation was launched on September 1 and is being led by the force’s central specialist crime command.
Clarke was allegedly detained at the property, questioned in police custody and later released on bail. The reasons for his reoprted arrest are unclear.
Clarke has denied any claims of gross misconduct and his lawyers previously said The Guardian had acted as the “judge, jury and executioner” of his career.
But Mrs Justice Steyn told the High Court on Monday that Mr Clarke “maintained a far-fetched and indeed a false case that the articles were not substantially true, by pursuing allegations of dishonesty and bad faith against almost all of the defendant's truth witnesses”.
She added: “'It seems to me that the sum of £3million sought by the defendant is appropriate and no more than what ought to be reasonably ordered in this case.”
The Standard has approached the Met for comment and Clarke for comment.
