‘Nobody is happier’ about Broncos’ new CBs than Von Miller and Bradley Chubb

After trading away veteran Aqib Talib last offseason, the Denver Broncos’ secondary did not have the same punch in 2018 as it had in previous seasons. The “No Fly Zone” seemed like a distant memory.

Broncos general manager John Elway addressed the secondary this offseason by signing two cornerbacks — Kareem Jackson and Bryce Callahan. In addition to making the secondary look better, those two players are also good news for the team’s pass rushers.

“Kareem, I’m a huge fan of Kareem and his game,” linebacker Von Miller said during a press conference on April 2. “All those corners that we got — coverage and pass rush, they go together.

“You can’t have one without the other. We’ve always had great DBs here and we’ve always had a great rush. I’m excited about this year and what we have.”

Miller and teammate Bradley Chubb combined to record 26.5 sacks last season. If the team’s secondary can force a few “coverage sacks” in 2019, Miller and Chubb could potentially combine for 30 sacks.

“Nobody is happier,” Chubb said. “I’ve been texting Von. When we signed those two guys, I was happy.

“It’s definitely going to be special. If they can make the quarterback hold it a little bit longer so we can get there, it’s going to be fun.”

Players will start Week 2 of Denver’s offseason program Tuesday.
