Nobel winner to speak at event to encourage entrepreneurship among researchers and scientists

Nobel Prize-winning biochemist Professor Sir Gregory Winter will be speaking in Cambridge next month.

Sir Gregory founded three biotech companies based on his inventions: Antibody Technology (acquired by AstraZeneca), Domantis (acquired by GlaxoSmithKline) and Bicycle Therapeutics.

His career has been based almost entirely a the Medical Research Council in Cambridge.

In 2018, he won a Nobel Prize in chemistry for his work in inventing techniques which made it easier to use antibodies to treat disease.

He is also a Fellow of Trinity College and was appointed the college’s master in 2012.

He will speak in Cambridge as part of the Impulse Programme for innovators and entrepreneurs.

Sir Gregory said: “Entrepreneurship is critical to bringing new ideas to the market from academia to benefit society.

“The Impulse Programme helps encourage entrepreneurship among researchers and scientists by bringing them together with real business practitioners, and I am looking forward to meeting all those involved.”

The business event will also see innovators and entrepreneurs taking part in the Impulse Programme share their latest ideas that could change the world.

The programme works to create a network to accelerate development, promote national and international collaboration, and foster an entrepreneurial environment.

Impulse Programme head Yupar Myint said: “I am very grateful to Sir Gregory for agreeing to speak at Business Meets Ideas.

“His knowledge and experience is invaluable.”
