Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali has won the 100th Nobel Peace Prize for his peacemaking efforts with Eritrea.
Ethiopia and Eritrea, longtime foes who fought a border war from 1998 to 2000, restored relations in July 2018 after years of hostility.
The prize, worth nine million Swedish crowns, or around $900,000, will be presented in Oslo on December 10.
Last year, Congolese doctor Denis Mukwege and human rights activist Nadia Murad jointly won the prestigious award for their efforts to end the use of sexual violence as a weapon of war.
There were 301 nominees for this year’s prize, of which 223 are individuals and 78 are organisations, according to the Nobel Institute.
