STOCKHOLM -- Scientist Akira Yoshino, who won the Nobel Prize in Chemistry, visited the Nobel Foundation in Stockholm to receive the medal and certificate on Thursday.
After receiving the award, Yoshino, an honorary fellow at Asahi Kasei Corp., temporarily left them at the foundation, and following the ceremony, told reporters that he really thinks the medal carries special weight -- in two meanings.
"I feel the weight of cooperation because of the many people who supported me until I received the award, and the weight of responsibility for working out a solution for environmental issues," he said.
Yoshino also attended a banquet hosted by the Swedish royal family at the royal palace in Stockholm, and had a pleasant talk with King Carl XVI Gustaf and others.
As he has completed most of his official duties, he is expected to return to Japan on Sunday morning.
