Nobbys horizon plays tricks on the mind

Playing Tricks: A new horizon at Nobbys beach taken from the surf cam inside the lifeguard tower. Picture: Coastal Watch

The world seems a bit topsy-turvy at the moment.

It's like we're living in the Upside Down. Anyone who's seen Stranger Things on Netflix knows that the Upside Down is a kind of parallel universe inhabited by a monster.

So when we saw this image of Nobbys beach from the Coastal Watch surf cam, we weren't overly surprised.

Having trees on the horizon is just another part of living in this strange alternate dimension we're all in.

Actually, it also made us think of an episode of another TV series, Northern Exposure.

The show, which ran in the 1990s, had an episode called The Quest.

Northern Exposure: Joel Fleischman finds the Jewelled City of the North.

The characters Joel and Maggie trek deep in the snowy wilderness in the Aleutians in Alaska, searching for a mythical place known as the "Jewelled City of the North" while following a clue on an ancient map.

They find New York which is, of course, a state of mind.

As for trees on the horizon at Nobbys, that's more a trick of the mind.

It's apparently a reflection of trees from a tinted window inside the lifeguard tower.

Either that or New Zealand.

A Breath of Fresh Air

On an early morning run on Wednesday, with the temperature below 10 and a north-westerly blowing, the air seemed different.

And when we say different, we mean fresh and clean. Yep, this was actual clean air we were breathing.

Usually the air seems a bit polluted. It might be bushfire smoke, motor vehicle exhaust, woodfire heater smoke, hazard reduction smoke or some other dodgy pollutant from who knows where.

But this air seemed as pure as snow. As we breathed this air in deep, our body was singing and our mind smiling.

We took a look at the NSW Air Quality Index. Right across NSW, the air was "very good", which is the highest rating air can get in this state.

The ratings are hazardous, very poor, poor, fair, good and very good. We noted there is no "excellent" rating, but let's not quibble. The air at the moment is magic. So get out there and breath some of that good stuff in.

Terrible Cat Jokes

Grumpy cat has no sense of humour.

Daphne Hughes, of Kahibah, tells Topics that her cat Daisy enjoyed our terrible cat jokes on Wednesday.

Daisy wanted to add a couple of her own.

What is a cat's favourite book? A catalogue.

What do you call a cat mishap? A catastrophe.

Yep, they're pretty terrible.

Non-Viral Jokes

New research shows nitpicking is getting on a lot of people's nerves. On social media, several people noted that there should be a hyphen between nit and picking.

My dad is so cheap that when he dies, he's going to walk toward the light and turn it off.
