Nobby Solano blasts Mike Ashley for veil of silence at Newcastle United in the last 13 years

Nobby Solano says that the first thing new owners at Newcastle United need to do is improve the club's awful communication policy.

The South American feels that Mike Ashley's veil of silence at St James' Park has not only left fans frustrated but also paved the way for the narrative at United to be hijacked by critics.

Too many times, a picture of Toon supporters being a demanding fanbase has been painted when in reality the lack of ambition has been the real reason Geordie punters have turned on Ashley.

Solano told the Chronicle: "It's always hard to see what the plan is with Mike Ashley.

"He's never been one that speaks to fans through the media.

"It was always different with Freddy Shepherd who would pick the phone up and give on-the-record comments to newspaper journalists.

"Mike doesn't even come to Newcastle that often.

"He just shows up at the odd game every now and again.

"It has been messy. The fans are then portrayed as demanding this or that, or asking for cups and titles, when they are only asking for ambition and vision."

Newcastle fans are anxiously waiting for the Premier League to give the takeover deal the green light.

That would then see Mike Ashley replaced by a consortium consisting of Amanda Staveley of PCP Capital Partners, the Reuben brothers and Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund.

Solano said: "Mike Ashley is renowned for getting a good deal.

"That's what he's done with his other businesses.

"He will hold out for the best price in the market conditions.

"We will never know how he's feeling. He's never done interviews. Even Lee Charnley is not saying anything."
