Noah Donohoe: Strabane vigil and rally on third anniversary of teen's death

A rally and vigil is to take place in the Co Tyrone town of Strabane to mark the third anniversary of the death of Belfast teenager Noah Donohoe.

Noah’s mother Fiona, who has fought a campaign to find answers about her son’s unexplained death in 2020, hails from the town originally.

Noah, 14, was found dead in a storm drain in Belfast in June 2020 six days after he went missing as he cycled to meet up with friends.

An inquest into the circumstances surrounding Noah’s death has been delayed after a pre-inquest hearing last week heard that the schoolboy’s family want issues around the disclosure of police material resolved in advance.

Independent councillor for the Strabane area, Raymond Barr, says the rally is an opportunity for the people in the local community to show support for Noah’s family.

“The vigil and rally will allow us the opportunity to publicly remember Noah’s disappearance as it takes place on the anniversary of the discovery of Noah’s body,” Cllr Barr said.

“Noah was born in Strabane and his family hail from Strabane so we have an affinity with the Donohoe family and the case. We are a tight knit community and we support each other, it also gives an opportunity to highlight and promote the crowdfunder organised by Donal McIntyre.”

A crowdfunding effort from award-winning investigative journalist McIntyre to fund a documentary into Noah’s disappearance and death has raised almost £60,000.

“I have long felt an outside police body should have been tasked with the investigation into Noahs disappearance and death,” Cllr Barr added.

“Donal has assembled a top class investigative team and I would have every confidence in a positive outcome.

“I would urge Noah's army to support the vigil next week and show their solidarity with Fiona and the Donohoe family and to also support the crowdfunder.”

The vigil takes place at the Tinnies in Strabane at 7pm on Tuesday 27 June.
