There's certainly no shortage of musical influences in young Noah Cyrus' life.
Her parents are Billy Ray Cyrus (of the "Achy Breaky Heart") and Tish Cyrus. And her big sister is Miley Cyrus.
"She taught me you have to have thick skin through this," Noah Cyrus says. "A lot of people are going to come after you."
Cyrus has also been taking notes from Katy Perry. She opens for Perry on her "Witness" tour.
"Touring with Katy is probably the most incredible experience to have as a brand-new artist," says Cyrus, 17. "She's definitely an iconic superstar and one of the most iconic girls in pop."
The "Swish Swish" singer has taught Cyrus what it looks like to be "fun and confident onstage. Watching her energy is contagious. And the way she interacts with fans and interacts onstage is a cool experience to watch."
Cyrus started acting as a toddler on the TV show "Doc" and later appeared with her sister on "Hannah Montana." On the big screen, she voiced the title character in "Ponyo."
"It wasn't like I'd been acting all the time," she says. "I'd done a few things. But it's definitely not something I'm completely comfortable with."
Singing is another story.
She told her management that she wanted to write songs and become an artist, and they worked together to make it happen. Her goal was to be a pop star who embraces all genres.
"That's what's different about me," says Cyrus, whose singles include "Again" and "Make Me (Cry)" featuring Labrinth. "I'm not the typical pop artist. I like to bring in that dark emo pop emotion so it has a different feel to it.
"I like having darker and deeper emotions because that's how I carry myself throughout life. It's not always about rainbows and butterflies. I'm able to show I'm outgoing as a person, energetic, the happiest person in the world, but I have different sides.
"There's also that dark twist to me. That's the way I've always been. I'm a person who likes to be to myself and sit in a room and watch 'American Horror Story.'"
Cyrus is currently working on her debut album, "NC-17," which tentatively is scheduled for release this year. She has been attempting to finish it while on the road.
"I'm going through new things," she says. "I'm going through a breakup now, coping with that, and it's tough on me. I might start writing new music and adding it to what I have.
"This is my baby. I've been working on it for so long. I really want it to come out."
