No WTA Phillip Island final for Andreescu

It was a North American wipeout in the semi-finals of the Phillip Island Trophy, with the favoured Bianca Andreescu and Danielle Collins both losing to European outsiders.

Friday's decider will be between Marie Bouzkova and Daria Kasatkina after the pair scored upset wins.

Bouzkova had too much in the stretch for Canada's 2019 US Open champion Andreescu, winning 6-7 (11-9) 6-2 7-5.

In a thrilling first set, eighth seed Andreescu needed four set points to get over the line, saving one herself in the one hour and 23 minute epic.

But the Czech had her eye in for the second, Andreescu holding serve just once in four attempts.

Andreescu marched out to a handy 4-2 lead in the final set, but the second seed's serve again was a let down as she was broken twice to hand over the match.

American Collins was similarly a warm favourite against world No.75 Kasatkina but the eighth seed couldn't get the job done either.

The 2009 Australian Open semi-finalist went down 6-2 6-7 (8-6) 6-1.

She claimed a bizarre second set despite losing her serve five times but capitulated in the decider to the Czech.

Bouzkova and Kasatkina, a former world No.10, have met just once before in qualifying for the Ostrava tournament last year, Kasatkina winning in three tight sets.
