Newcastle United maintain Isaac Hayden transfer stance as Southampton linked with cash buy

Newcastle United have not held any talks regarding the possible addition of Watford midfielder Will Hughes.

The Magpies did scout the 26-year-old during the Graham Carr era at St James' Park when he recommended the player to Newcastle chiefs during his Derby County days.

Reports have suggested that United are talking to his current club the Hornets about a deal to bring him north with Isaac Hayden heading the other way.

However, that has been denied by Toon sources and Newcastle are keen to hold on to Hayden.

Southampton have also been credited with a £10million bid for Hayden but Newcastle's stance is to push away interest, although every player at United has a price.

Hayden only signed a new deal in September 2020 and is contracted for six years.

United are yet to make a breakthrough in the transfer window but Steve Bruce knows he has to be patient.

Joe Willock will start pre-season with Arsenal and his representatives are yet to hold key talks with the Gunners.

Bruce would love to sign Willock, even if it can be done as a loan deal, but the player has not made any decisions yet.

Newcastle will decide loan destinations for Freddie Woodman and Matty Longstaff in due course

Longstaff has been linked with Middlesbrough and West Bromwich Albion while Swansea are keen on Woodman again.
