No, Trent Williams isn’t going to return because Adrian Peterson is starting again

Veterans stick together…

Unfortunately, Washington Redskins running back Adrian Peterson doesn’t believe that his being spurned by the team in Week 1 has anything to do with veteran left tackle Trent Williams’ holdout from the team.

Williams and Peterson are close, and the two really developed a bond in 2018 when playing with each other for the first time. While Williams was holding out from the team throughout the offseason, Peterson repeatedly voiced his support for the seven-time pro bowler, saying that he supported everything Williams was doing, though he wished to see him back soon.

More recently, this past weekend, Peterson was marked down as a healthy scratch, which apparently ruffled some feathers in the locker room. Now, with the unfortunate news about Derrius Guice and his torn meniscus, it appears that AP will become the feature back in Washington once again. If only that was enough to bring Williams back to the team.

“He’s a man,” Peterson explained, via NBC Sports. “He makes his decisions, and me being back at starting running back or whatever is not going to affect the way that he feels.”

Though Peterson will have to run behind a patchwork lineup featuring Donald Penn and Ereck Flowers on the left side of the line — both of whom were signed this offseason — it would be a testament to their friendship if Williams ended his holdout just to help his friend avoid getting banged up.

As the holdout stretches into the middle of September, people will look for every hint that Williams might end his holdout. He might return soon, but it won’t be because of Peterson’s new status.
