No trains will run at COP26 if strike goes ahead at Scotrail, union boss warns

A union organiser has warned that 'every' Scotrail service will be disrupted by the rail workers strike during COP26.

The RMT union confirmed yesterday that Scotrail services would be crippled during the climate conference after its members voted for further action amid a pay dispute which has raged on for months.

Scotland union organiser Michael Hogg claimed that a wage increase offer of nearly five per cent was not acceptable due to planned cuts.

Speaking this morning on Good Morning Scotland, Mr Hogg called the offer 'rotten and lousy' and said it was a 'kick in the teeth to workers'.

Mr Hogg said: "For the last 18 months we have been stonewalled by Abellio Scotrail and by Caledonian Sleeper."

“This offer is not worthy of consideration, it’s a kick in the teeth to workers. That’s our position.

“The offer does not meet union policy. It’s a rotten, lousy offer. We’re seeking meaningful talks to find a solution to the current dispute.

“The offer is 4.7 percent over two years with efficiency savings and what that means is my members are expected to sell hard-earned terms and conditions in order to get a payrise. That’s not acceptable.'

When asked what rail journeys would be affected, he said 'every service'.

He said it was 'correct' that there would be no Scotrail trains running curing the climate conference.
