No trains running in or out of Edinburgh until Sunday due to major rail works

It's bad news for those looking to travel to and from Edinburgh by train over the weekend as major rail works are underway.

Network Rail staff have been working around-the-clock since Christmas Day, carrying out the vital engineering works near Haymarket.

While there are normally no ScotRail services on Christmas Day or Boxing Day, trains servicing Edinburgh are to remain out of action until Sunday morning (29 December), when normal service is expected to resume at 10am.

This is expected to cause a "weekend of travel hell" for West Lothian commuters, with ScotRail urging customers to consider make alternative arrangements if they are planning on travelling by rail on the days affected.

On the Edinburgh to Glasgow Central via Shotts line, trains will operate on a reduced hourly service and will start and terminate at West Calder with a replacement bus service running between West Calder and the capital.

On the Edinburgh to Helensburgh Central and Milngavie lines, trains will start and terminate at Bathgate with a bus service running between Bathgate and Edinburgh.
