No trains between Manchester and Liverpool after body found on railway line

There are no services running between Manchester and Liverpool after a body was found on the line.

British Transport Police were called to Halewood Station in Merseyside at 7.41am this morning to reports of a causality on the tracks.

Paramedics attended but sadly, a person was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officers are working to identify the person and inform their family.

The death is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.

The incident has had a knock on effect to trains running between Liverpool Lime Street and Manchester Oxford Road.

Northern Rail say they expect the disruption to continue until at least 10am on Monday morning.

A number of services have been delayed, cancelled or diverted as a result of the ongoing disruption.

Tickets are being accepted by Northern and TransPennine Express for services between Manchester and Liverpool.

In a post on Twitter, Northern Rail said: "Due to emergency services dealing with an incident between Liverpool South Parkway and Manchester Oxford Road all lines are blocked.

"Disruption is expected until 10:00 14/09."
