No, the Washington Redskins should not sign Le’Veon Bell

Don’t say it. Don’t even think it. The answer is no.

The Redskins should not think about signing soon-to-be unrestricted free agent running back Le’Veon Bell.

The former All-Pro running back is set to hit the market this off-season, after the Pittsburgh Steelers announced that they will not place the Franchise Tag on Bell.

Bell sat out the entire 2018 season in attempts to hold out for a max contract, which appears to have worked. Now, this spring Bell will have the freedom to sign with whomever he would like, stuffing his pockets with as much money as he possibly can.

That’s where our attention shifts to Washington. I’ll say it again — don’t even think about it.

The Redskins don’t need another RB. The backfield is already stacked with veteran Adrian Peterson, capable Chris Thompson, and hopeful-star Derrius Guice. In 2018, the Redskins ranked 17th in the league with 110 rushing yards per game. It’s not exactly where you want to be, but considering that Guice, a 2nd round pick out of LSU was sidelined with a torn ACL in the preseason, middle of the pack better than expected.

Couple the lack of need with the lack of cap space, and the argument for signing Bell should be put to rest. According to Spotrac, the Redskins have just over $17 million in cap space this offseason. That isn’t even close to the amount needed to sign a player of Bell’s stature, not to mention, there are needs that are much more pressing than adding another running back to the roster.

For some reading this, the argument to sign Bell may seem asinine. This article wasn’t for you. This is to the fans who just want to see Bell sporting the Red and Gold in the Nation’s Capital. I understand your desire, but I urge you to pump the brakes and avoid lobbying for Bruce Allen and Co. to recruit Bell to D.C.

Washington doesn’t need him. Focus your attention elsewhere.
