No, the NBA has not passed the NFL and it’s not even close

We are in a time of the hottest takes and instant overreactions. Have the NBA playoffs been fun this year? Absolutely. Everyone has enjoyed the buzzer beaters, young stars coming into their own and the truly competitive series — especially in the second round unless the team playing is the Celtics. This folks, is an overreaction on the grandest of scales.

Here’s the thing: No. Nope. Definitely not.

Even when the NFL was in decline over the past few years, it wasn’t close when it came to viewership against any other league. The NBA is popular, but the NFL is king. The NFL Draft will outrate NBA and NHL playoff games.

The truth is, this article is actually the internet just going nuts. The Complex account tweeted it out today, but the article was actually written in October of 2018. There’s no reason this article should have been passed around today other than Complex chasing clicks and people on the internet overreacting to old articles like it’s new news.

In any case, no the NFL is not in trouble. They have young up and coming stars. The NFL is becoming much better at taking advantage of its fans on digital platforms. The league is creating offers for cord cutters. Legalized gambling is going to bring in new fans or keep fans around longer as they try and see if they will cover their bets.

It’s a slow NFL news time. Things won’t ramp for a few more months. This is just an overreaction to something fun.
