No suspect found after SWAT team called about gunman in Gresham

Chicago police SWAT officers responded to reports of a man with a gun but did not find anyone on July 11, 2019, in the 8100 block of South Elizabeth Street.

A SWAT team called about a man with a gun Thursday in Gresham on the South Side did not find anyone.

Someone called police at 5:32 a.m. to report the armed man in the 8100 block of South Elizabeth Street, according to Chicago police. A SWAT team responded to the scene and several streets in the area were closed.

As of 8:30 a.m., the scene was cleared and streets were reopened, police said. No armed person was located.

The Chicago Transit Authority temporarily rerouted No. 44 Wallace-Racine buses near 82nd Street and Racine Avenue because of police activity, the transit agency said in an alert. The reroute ended shortly before 8:30 a.m.

The situation remains under investigation, police said.
