No surprise, Vikings get D- grade for 2016 1st-round pick

Three years after being drafted in the first round of the 2016 NFL Draft, Laquon Treadwell is fighting for a roster spot with the Vikings.

The Vikings drafted Treadwell with the 23rd pick in that draft, and after three seasons, 56 catches, 517 yards and a touchdown, it’s safe to say things haven’t worked out.

In a recent draft grades revisited article at NFL.com, the Vikings earn a D- grade for the Treadwell pick.

Here’s what Lance Zierlein wrote about the pick:

Treadwell entered the draft as a big target (6-foot-2, 221 pounds) with ball skills, but some teams were concerned about his speed and ability to separate. With just 56 career catches, one touchdown and only one game of 50-plus yards receiving over his first 40 career contests, I would say those concerns were justified.

In Rick Spielman’s defense, no receivers in the first round of this draft have really been great. Corey Coleman, Will Fuller and Josh Doctson were the other receivers drafted in the first round, all before Treadwell.

But . . . The Saints did draft Michael Thomas in the second round.
