GREATER NOIDA: Residents of sectors 1, 16, 16B, 16C, and Techzone 4 in Greater Noida complain of non-functional streetlights along the service roads and some parts of the main road too. Security and low visibility while commuting are some of the problems faced by 3.5 lakh residents living in various housing societies along these areas.
“Almost all service roads in the Greater Noida West area do not have streetlights installed. The tender was published three times and then cancelled because less than three vendors available. This was re-published the fourth time,” said Manish Kumar, a resident of Greater Noida.
“It seems like the authority has failed to provide basic amenities. Urgent action needs to be taken against contractors as it’s a matter of safety,” said Sagar Gupta, resident of Spring Meadows Techzone 4.
Bhawna Gaur, a resident of 11th Avenue Gaur City-2 had to stop cycling due to the dark stretches. “With no streetlights, I feel unsafe and scared as incidents of mobile and chain snatching have increased in the area,” said Gaur.
Earlier yellow lights were installed on the main roads of Greater Noida. Recently, Surya Roshni bagged Rs 74 crore contract for changing all yellow lights to LED in Greater Noida along with its maintenance for 7 years.
When contacted, Keshav Khandela, the project in charge of Surya Roshni told TOI that as per the contract they were to provide 70,000 lights in the city, out of which 54,000 are to be replaced with new LED lights. While work on about 45,000 lights has been completed as per the schedule provided by GNIDA, about 10,000 more lights are to be placed across the remaining parts of the city, which is expected to be completed in a month.
