The Maharashtra government on Thursday cancelled the board exams for Standard XII. A proposal to this effect was sent to the State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA), led by Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray for sanction and was cleared by it.
State School Education Minister Varsha Gaikwad on Wednesday said the proposal to cancel the exam was sent to the SDMA. “Students have been under pressure due to the pandemic for the last 14 months. The Centre has cancelled the CBSE board exam. The State government also has cancelled the exam to protect students’ health, psychological well-being and to maintain uniformity in evaluation of performance from different boards,” she said.
She said the State government would soon announce the evaluation mechanism and the date of results.
Ms. Gaikwad said considering the board, school and college exams in future, the students, teachers and non-teaching staff should be given the status of frontline workers and given vaccination on priority.
