No singing, food or drink - The latest guidance for weddings in England

Many brides and grooms have faced the heartbreaking decision to postpone and even cancel their weddings due to the coronavirus pandemic.

But there is some hope as services, albeit still limited, are allowed to restart from July 4.

It is all part of the government's plan to lift a series of major lockdown measures that were first introduced back in March - including the reopening of pubs, restaurants and hairdressers.

Places of worship are another critical venue given the green light for reopening.

But this comes with a series of measures and rules being put in place, including for weddings taking place at a church.

Weddings and civil partnerships will be allowed to take place but you should only invite close friends and family, up to a maximum of 30 people.

This applies to wedding ceremonies only as large wedding receptions or parties should of course not be taking place.

Wedding celebrations can only happen when people follow the guidance of six people outdoors, support bubbles, or two households indoors or outdoors.

No food or drink should be consumed as a part of the event unless required for the purposes of solemnisation.

Large wedding receptions or parties should also not take place after the ceremony itself.

And if your wedding is taking place in church, there are a few general rules which apply to them reopening in a safe way.

This includes the avoidance of singing, shouting, raising voices and/or playing music at a volume that makes normal conversation difficult or that may encourage shouting.

Where possible, you should also adhere to social distancing of at least two metres or one metre with risk mitigation (where 2 metres is not viable) between households.
