The Central Board of Secondary Education on Tuesday dismissed claims circulating on social media about an alleged breach of its On Screen Marking (OSM) system. The board clarified that the portal mentioned in the viral post was only a testing platform containing sample data and not the live system used for evaluation of answer sheets.
"There are no actual evaluation data, marks or other data held on that portal. The Board emphasises that no security breaches have come to light on the Portal deployed for the actual evaluation work," read the statement.
The clarification came after a social media user claimed to have compromised a CBSE portal bearing the URL “cbse.onmarks.co.in” on February 26, 2026. The post subsequently triggered concerns online and formed the basis of several media reports alleging a security breach in the board’s digital evaluation process.
In an official statement, CBSE said the portal referenced in the claim was not linked to the actual evaluation infrastructure used for assessing students’ answer books.
The board stressed that the live evaluation system operates on a different URL and has not been compromised.
According to the board, the cited portal was merely an internal testing site created for review and sample demonstrations. It did not contain any real student records, marks, evaluation details or confidential examination data.
CBSE says no actual data exposed
Seeking to concerns among students, parents and schools, CBSE asserted that no security vulnerabilities affecting the operational evaluation platform had come to light.
CBSE further noted that the On Screen Marking system was introduced to improve transparency and efficiency in the assessment process, while also incorporating safeguards and grievance redressal mechanisms to maintain accountability.
The board reiterated that robust security protocols remain in place to protect the integrity of the platform used during the evaluation of answer sheets and reassured stakeholders that student data and marks remain secure.
"The Board would like to state that this system has been implemented for enhanced transparency in assessments with strong grievance redressal mechanisms built into it and would reassure all concerned about the strong safeguards implemented to ensure integrity of the platform actually deployed as regards any vulnerabilities," it said.
The clarification comes at a time when digital examination systems and online assessment tools are increasingly under scrutiny over concerns related to cybersecurity and data protection.
