FUKUOKA -- A Guinness World Records attempt for the largest rugby scrum was held in Heiwadai Stadium in Chuo Ward, Fukuoka, on Saturday.

The event organized by the Junior Chamber International Fukuoka was also held to help promote the Rugby World Cup 2019 that will kick off in September across Japan.

The number of people who participated in the record-breaking attempt was 742, far less than expected due to rain and falling short of establishing a new record. Guinness World Records lists 2,586 people as having formed the largest rugby scrum, a feat achieved at Toyota Stadium in Toyota, Aichi Prefecture, in September.

Nevertheless, the participants in Fukuoka gamely formed a scrum, exchanged high-fives and showed a good spirit of camaraderie.
