No Sconce? No Problem – Pooky Just Dropped a Wire-Free Alternative to Wall Lights That Adds Bespoke Character to Bookshelves

Pooky Bronte Library Light with an ikat shade affixed to a light blue bookshelf with assorted objects.

Put it on the shelf, they say. Some take this as life advice; the rest of us do it with shoes, books, ceramics, and holiday souvenirs that don’t make sense anywhere else. Table lamps aren’t usually invited. (Imagining the wire situation alone makes us shiver.) Strictly side-table and desktop fare – until now.

Pooky has just launched a wire-free ‘library light' that behaves more like a bespoke architectural detail than a lamp, and it's a rather fabulous renter-friendly stand-in for a sconce.

This novel lighting idea solves two annoyingly common decorating dilemmas: calling an electrician every time you want a wall light, and sacrificing valuable surface space to a table lamp when there’s perfectly good shelving elsewhere.

It’s a book! No, it’s a light! Shaped to disappear among your favorite reads, Pooky’s new Bronte Library Light is a characterful alternative to a traditional sconce. (Image credit: Pooky)

That flexibility is obviously central to Pooky’s portable lamp universe. Powered by the brand’s signature rechargeable Genesis cell, the Bronte swaps a traditional lamp base for a first-of-its-kind G-clamp, allowing it to attach directly to shelves and mantels without a single drill hole.

And again, since this is a Pooky product, you best believe they encourage you to pack on the personality: the new library light base is available in five finishes and can be paired with more than 200 interchangeable shades, including fan-favorite collaborations with Ellen Merchant, inspired by the English countryside, and Matthew Williamson’s leap of leopard prints.

Given its petite proportions and literary branding, the Bronte is very happy to sit among your favorite summer reads. But it’s equally opportune anywhere you find yourself woefully sconceless – think bedrooms, closets, living rooms, entryways, and fireplaces. The counter-decluttering use cases, much like the color and pattern combinations on offer, are endless.

As it turns out, ‘put it on a shelf’ may be terrible advice for your feelings, but for a lamp? Couldn't be better.

The Bronte’s lack of wires and surprisingly sturdy clamp make it as shelf-smart as it is bookish. But if you’re ready to put your summer reading down and head outside, we found a pair of wire-free solar lanterns for an al fresco equivalent.
