‘No Saliba, no party’ - Arsenal fans can’t believe Mikel Arteta’s decision vs Liverpool

Mikel Arteta has named his starting lineup for the Community Shield at Wembley Stadium.

Victory in the FA Cup final against Chelsea just a few weeks ago at the same venue means that Arsenal come up against Premier League Champions Liverpool with a chance to lift the first piece of silverware on offer this season.

As well as the chance to start the upcoming campaign on a high, the match also gives Arteta the chance to take a look at his squad ahead of the opening Premier League game against Fulham in just two weeks’ time.

The Arsenal boss has appeared to opt back to a back four for the game, with Hector Bellerin, Rob Holding, David Luiz, and Kieran Tierney making up the defence.

Emiliano Martinez has also been preferred to Bernd Leno in goal.

A midfield three includes Ainsley Maitland-Niles and Mohamed Elneny, while Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang starts up front with Bukayo Saka and Eddie Nketiah providing support to the Gabon international.

But it is the absence of one defender who has got Arsenal fans on social media talking, with many not happy to see William Saliba start on the bench.

Saliba joined the Gunners last summer, but is yet to play a competitive game in an Arsenal shirt.

He spent the 2019/20 season on loan at former club Saint-Etienne, who he helped to make the Coupe de France final.

Saliba is highly rated around Europe, and Arsenal fans will be hoping that he impresses from the bench at Wembley should he be given the chance against Liverpool.
