No reunion: CB Richard Sherman to sign with Buccaneers

The 49ers can cross Richard Sherman off their list of potential reinforcements at cornerback. The 33-year-old is signing a one-year deal with the Buccaneers according to Sherman, who announced the move on his podcast.

Sherman missed 11 games for San Francisco last year because of a calf injury, but in 2019 he was a Second-Team All-Pro and helped lead the 49ers to the Super Bowl.

With injuries piling up at cornerback and Jason Verrett out for the season, it looked like San Francisco might aim to bring Sherman back to try and recapture the dominant secondary that sparked their run two years ago.

NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport reported the 49ers were one of three teams to be in touch with Sherman along with the Seahawks and Bucs. A recruiting pitch from Tampa Bay quarterback Tom Brady helped push the veteran toward the defending Super Bowl champions, leaving the 49ers to roll with Emmanuel Moseley, Josh Norman, Deommodore Lenoir, Dre Kirkpatrick, Ambry Thomas, Buster Skrine and Davontae Harris, who is set to come off Injured Reserve before Week 4.

Sherman in 10 NFL seasons has played in 139 games with 133 starts. He has 484 tackles, 2.0 sacks, 36 interceptions and 115 pass breakups.
