No Return viewers question part of ITV drama that 'makes no sense'

No Return is the brand new drama from ITV.

The four-part series made its debut on the channel on Monday, February 7 starring Sheridan Smith, who plays Kathy, and Louis Ashbourne Serkis, who takes on the role of Noah.

It follows a British family caught up in a serious legal situation while on holiday in Turkey.

And while ITV viewers were gripped by the drama, others couldn't help point out the series wasn't filmed in Turkey, despite it being set there.

"What's the point of it being set in Turkey but then filming it in Spain, literally makes no sense," questioned one social media user.

While another added: "#Noreturn @Sheridansmith1 @ITV can't believe you say it's Turkey when it's actually Benalmadena in Spain."

And a third commented: "Supposed to be turkey filmed in Spain lol. Some scenes in studio in Manchester #NoReturn."

While another person claimed: "Fun fact, this was not filmed in Turkey, not entirely, it was filmed in Nerja Spain, as we saw filming going on while there last September. Looked good though #noreturn."

Series creator and writer, Danny Brocklehurst, has previously explained why the show was made in Spain and set Turkey.

He said: "It would have been too complicated to shoot in Turkey, including the problems of the pandemic. The area of Spain we have chosen looks like Turkey anyway.

"All you need to do is change the signage. Including an exterior prison location near Malaga. With hotel and prison sets built in Manchester. It looks amazing."

Scenes were filmed at Calahonda beach, Nerja, last September and sets for the hotel and the prison were made in Manchester. You can read more about the filming locations for No Return here.

No Return returns on Monday, February 14 at 9pm on ITV.
