No rest for Manuel Pellegrini as he begins planning West Ham's summer transfer moves

Manuel Pellegrini will sit down with each of his first team squad players this week to discuss their futures at West Ham ahead of the 2019/20 season and will have some difficult conversations on the horizon.

The Hammers will report back to training on Tuesday for their final few sessions of the season before the last match of the campaign against Watford on Sunday afternoon, during which time Pellegrini will spell out what is going to be happening this summer to his players.

While after the Watford game the Hammers players will be looking at booking hotel rooms for their holidays or heading back to their home countries for a couple of weeks, Pellegrini won't be doing the same.

The manager likes to head back to Malaga, where he still has a residence and a roundabout named after him, whenever he gets the chance to have a break but the boss admitted after Saturday's 3-0 win over Southampton that he won't be getting much time off over the summer.

It's been an up and down first season for Pellegrini in east London and Sunday's match could well be a shootout for who will finish tenth in the Premier League but any success next season depends how Pellegrini and director of football Mario Husillos get on this summer in the transfer market.

“When we are finished of course we need to continue working, we need to improve," Pellegrini said.

"Players will go to holidays and we will start with the sporting director and the owner to try to think what we must do to improve next season.

"Does the manager get a break? Never. Because you cannot arrive for holidays when now we start working.

"I think during the holidays, this is my way of thinking, I am always in contact with the sporting director talking about different players, continue seeing different options, which is the better. So not a complete holiday but it doesn't matter."

Pellegrini reveals every West Ham player will know their futures next week ahead of transfer window

The Hammers manager won't have to decide over the futures of Andy Carroll or number two keeper Adrian, whose contracts expire this summer and will be released. The boss is expected to allow other fringe players to leave, providing he can get suitable replacements in to free up some of the over-inflated wage bill at West Ham.
