'No reason' for nightclub shooting

Editor's note December 4, 2017: After a trial in the WA District Court on September 18, 2006, the accused man was found not guilty of the charge "With intent to do grievous bodily harm unlawfully wounds another".

A Perth man who was shot in a Subiaco nightclub in Perth on August 27, 2005, says the attack was unprovoked.

Gary Denton, 33, is recovering in Sir Charles Gardiner hospital.

He says he is still coming to terms with the events of the night.

"I think today's the first time that it's actually sunk in what happened," he said.

"When I saw my son, who's just two-and-a bit, I realised if things had of been a bit different or if he'd raised the gun a bit higher or hit a main artery... having thoughts like... he'd never remember me," he said.

A 27-year-old man appeared in the Perth Magistrates Court on August 29, 2005, charged over the shooting.

It is alleged the man fired a shot from a handgun into Mr Denton's leg during a scuffle on the dance floor of the Sapphire Bar on the morning of Saturday August 27, 2005.
