No ratatouille: Rodents found running among buns at US Burger King

A video of rodents running around inside a bag of Burger King buns has prompted an investigation by US health officials.

Footage shared by Delaware woman Shantel Johnston shows at least two of the animals scurrying inside the plastic bag, although it is unclear how she obtained the clip.

"Don't go to Burger King on 202. [Rodents] running all over their buns," she wrote, alongside three vomiting emojis.

The video prompted an immediate investigation by US health inspectors, who found rodent droppings on and inside hamburgers and rolls.

According to the initial report, droppings were also found near the ice machine, the water heater, syrup storage boxes and behind fryers.

In addition to the droppings, flies were coming from a drain close to where the rolls and buns were stored.

The store has been ordered to close and will only be able to reopen after an inspection by the Division of Public Health's Office of Food Protection.

A spokesperson for Burger King told Delaware Online the restaurant was independently owned and operated, and would be investigated.
