No Rangers penalty paranoia as stats don't lie and Celtic should be going for TENTH quadruple - Hotline

The Old Firm VAR debate rumbled on but let's start today with a couple of calls on Aberdeen...and neither of them are particularly complimentary to the not-so-dandy Dons, as far as these Hotliners are concerned.

Gary Stevenson, Newtonhill, said: "Odds on favourite Chris Wilder must have really wanted the Aberdeen manager's job - Watford needed someone and within minutes Wilder accepted. I think Aberdeen should appoint Craig Brown and put an end to the fallacy that they can attract a so called big fish." Neil Renton, Edinburgh, emailed: "I don’t know what Willie Miller has been drinking if he thinks Aberdeen can finish third in the league. Whatever it is he must be downing loads of it to null the pain of watching the worst Dons side in recent history."

Onto VAR and John Dickson emailed: "When are all these Celtic fans going to take their green tinted glasses off regarding Rangers penalties? Andy Walker says the one against Kilmarnock wasn't a penalty when all the player needed was a pair of goalkeepers gloves the way he brought the ball down. Paranoid the lot of them - away and take up a referee course."

Stuart McLeod, Stepps, said: "Another week and the Celtic fans obsession with Rangers and VAR continues to grow. In my opinion the Rangers' penalty award was harsh on Killie but correct by the letter of the law. Funnily enough they were all gushing about Nick Walsh the previous weekend and VAR when they won, however not one mentioned the shirt pull by Carter-Vickers in the box at Hampden which again would have been harsh but by the letter of the law it was a penalty. You can't have it both ways guys."

But Kenny Wilson, Moffat, countered with: "When VAR was introduced we all thought that it would end the trend of Rangers getting decisions in their favour but even with VAR they constantly get dodgy penalties and I’ve no idea what has to happen for a team to get a penalty against them.

"Stats don’t lie and for them to have none against them when there should’ve been at least 5 isn’t paranoia. It’s there for all to see and it’s about time clubs were asking the SFA for reason."

And yet Rab Hunter, from Dumfries, sees it all rather differently. He said: "Having seen the list of officials appointed to the Hearts v Celtic cup tie let me be the first to congratulate Celtic on their resounding victory. Let's face it, with Clancy refereeing and Collum on VAR Hearts have absolutely no chance. If one of them doesn’t get them, you can be sure the other will. Safe to say the SFA have done absolutely everything in their power to ensure Celtic progress!"

Joe Sneddon emailed: "The simple truth as to why is Celtic are only a few bad games ahead in the league is playing just one game a week after Christmas for 4-5 years. Rangers are still making adjustments. I suppose that comes being the superior Scottish club in Europe for as long as we can remember. If I was a Celtic supporter with all that wealth I would be disappointed that we weren’t going for our 10th quadruple in a row."

Arrin Geddes, Irvine, said: "The Rangers fans still can’t get to grips with the FFP rules, can they? You’re not allowed to have someone with deep pockets come in and just bankroll a team, you have to generate your own transfer funds which is why Ange has been able to spend what he has and why Celtic also have the magnificent disco lights’ that everyone else is jealous of."

Finally, a sentiment we can all agree on from Paul Price, Belfast, said: "Life is precious god bless Michael Beale's wee niece Poppy and her family. I hope this child gets the help she needs and gets better."
