No Rangers guard of honour for Celtic as Ibrox club snub title tradition for champions

Rangers are set to snub a title tradition by refusing to give Celtic a guard of honour.

Record Sport understands the Ibrox club have no plans to have their players applaud their rivals on to the pitch ahead of Sunday’s Old Firm clash.

Neil Lennon’s Hoops will be making their first appearance since securing the Premiership crown but, although no official announcement has been made yet, there seems little chance of a guard of honour happening.

However, Kris Boyd is adamant Rangers should “do the right thing” and give Celtic the traditional salute afforded to title winners.

Kris Boyd calls on Rangers to show their 'class' by giving Celtic a guard of honour

The former Light Blues striker said: “Rangers would make a statement about what type of club they are if they do it.

“Over the years, it has always been the case that Rangers have held themselves in high regard and rightly so because of the way they have conducted themselves.

“It would be the right thing to do and, for me, I think they should.

“At the end of the day, they [Celtic] might be your rivals, but they have won the league.

"Pay them the respect they deserve.”
