No procession for Grangemouth Children's Day but crowning will take place

The organisers of Grangemouth Children's Day have confirmed the annual event has been cancelled again because of coronavirus.

It was hoped it would be able to take place this year, but bosses say because of restrictions, that will not be possible.

Locals will be able to watch the Queen of Grangemouth being crowned via a virtual ceremony though.

In a statement on social media, Lorraine Hamilton of the Grangemouth Children's Day Committee, said: " As you will be aware the Covid-19 pandemic has affected every part of our day to day lives and due to this the Children's Day 2020 was cancelled.

"It is with a heavy heart that we must inform you that this year's ceremony will only include the main retinue.

"Our priority is to crown Queen Amy and with restrictions still in place we are limited in numbers.

"Consequently we are unable to accommodate the large numbers of Rainbow Fairies, Rainbow Fairy Godmothers and Queens Guards.

"Our plan is to crown Queen Amy with only her retinue and Dowager Queen Erin present.

"This will be live streamed for you all to watch, although is subject to change as we follow government and local council guidance.

"We understand this will be very disappointing for your children as it is for everyone involved."
