There are currently no plans to review safety measures on a Bedminster road despite concerns raised by a judge after a cyclist collided with a pensioner leaving her with life-threatening injuries.
Connor Coltman was pedalling at speed when he collided with 70-year-old Angela Horseman as she crossed East Street on January 15 this year.
Mrs Horseman was knocked to the road and suffered severe head injuries and a punctured lung.
In the months since the incident she has had three operations to her brain and is likely to have long-term repercussions.
Last week Coltman, who fled the scene following the collision, was sentenced to 16 months in prison after he pleaded guilty to causing bodily harm to Mrs Horseman by wanton or furious driving.
The 27-year-old, of East Street in Bedminster, also admitted a charge of failing to appear at court.
During the sentencing at Bristol Crown Court on June 13 Judge William Hart was shown CCTV of East Street around the time of the incident.
After viewing the footage he told the court: "Perhaps the council should review the road. I saw a lot of fast cyclists."
But Bristol City Council has said there are currently no plans to review road safety in East Street as the incident appeared to be “isolated” and caused by “reckless behaviour”.
A spokesperson for the authority said: “We are sorry to hear about the impact this incident had on the victim and we wish her well during her ongoing rehabilitation.
“We constantly monitor road safety across the city and identify any problem areas.
“In the case of East Street, this appears to be an isolated incident caused by reckless behaviour but we would of course investigate if this became a regular issue.”
