No plans to derail bills on MPs and senators: NLA president

National Legislative Assembly (NLA) president Pornpetch Wichitcholchai expects two key organic bills related to elections to sail through the assembly on Thursday.

NLA members will convene on Thursday with the bills on the election of MPs and the selection of senators on the agenda.

Government critics have expressed concerns that the assembly might reject the bills in another ploy to delay general elections and prolong administrative power for the coup makers.

But Mr Pornpetch dismissed that suggestion after the two bills were thrashed out by a joint panel comprising the Constitution Drafting Committee, NLA and Election Commission.

Legislators have to reason to vote against the two bills, he said.
