No plans for Waterford alcohol ban says boss Paraic Fanning

Paraic Fanning says he has no plans to impose an alcohol ban in Waterford.

Mayo footballer Lee Keegan this week said drink bans are effectively worthless, adding that “if you can’t be treated like an adult then you’re not going to act like one in training”.

Waterford senior hurling boss Fanning said such bans have no part in his regime.

“I think the lads will back me up on this, but I don’t do drink bans,” he said. “That’s my own view.

"If a player is operating at that level and you have to impose a drink ban then he probably shouldn’t be in that environment.

“I trust the group, that’s what we expect from each other, I trust everyone and I think we have that in the squad.

"It goes without saying, and the players know that - like Muhammad Ali said, fighters know when fighters are in condition.

“You know what you need to be doing coming up to games. I don’t do drink bans but I expect the players to look after themselves and to get ready for Championship.

"They set that bar themselves, they set the standard,” Fanning added.
