No plans for separate dog run for smaller dogs at Corkagh Park

South Dublin Council has said that it does not intend to provide a separate dog run only for smaller dogs in Corkagh Park.

At the recent Clondalkin area meeting, Sinn Fein Cllr William Carey called for the creation of a small dog run "within or beside" the existing dog run in Corkagh Park. Cllr Carey said: "This request comes from dog owners of large and small dogs as they believe it would make their experience in the park better for all dog owners and dogs."

However, the request to segregate smaller dogs from larger dogs was turned down by the council. South Dublin County Council said that the existing dog run is "adequate for the purpose that it was provided for."

A spokesman for South Dublin County Council confirmed to Dublin Live: "SDCC does not intend to provide a separate dog run for smaller dogs. Dog owners are responsible for their dogs while using the facility and they should be under effectual control at all times.

"The size of dog does not necessarily determine the behaviour of dogs, this is a matter for the dog owner or person in charge of the dog," they added. The dog run was set up in Corkagh Park in 2013, and it is approximately 4,000 square metres in size and measures approximately 50 metres x 80 metres.

Meanwhile, the council said that the run is a "self-regulating facility" which is used by both large and small dog breeds alike.
