There are no plans for the front desk at Perth Police Station reverting to 24-hour opening hours.
The Perthshire Advertiser understands the front desk at the region’s main police station has not been open to the public beyond 4pm since March 2020.
Perth’s Police Station’s front counter is only open from 7/8am to 4pm seven days a week, as opposed to being manned 24 hours a day as it was previously.
It is understood the only other station in Perth and Kinross with a front desk is Pitlochry and it is only open Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm.
Meanwhile Dundee’s Bell Street police station is open 24/7.
It comes after it was confirmed the custody suite at Perth was being downgraded. Police Scotland has insisted that will not impact on the rest of the station.
One Perth and Kinross resident told the Perthshire Advertiser : “You can go to the pub for a pint at night but you can’t go to the police station to report a crime.”
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “The front counter has continued to operate and regardless of the reclassification outcome, will continue to do so.
“It is only the custody suite being reclassified.
“The police station remains open to the public and still has operational police officers working within.”
A spokesperson later confirmed there are no plans to revert to providing 24/7 provision at Perth Police Station’s front desk at this time.
