No place for John 'Bubbles' O'Dwyer on Colm Bonnar's Tipperary panel

Tipperary boss manager Colm Bonnar has named his panel for the upcoming Allianz Hurling League campaign and there is no place for John O’Dwyer.

A goalscorer in Tipperary’s All-Ireland final wins over Kilkenny in both 2016 and ‘19, ‘Bubbles’ is one of the county’s most celebrated natural talents but hasn’t always been an automatic starter and though he started each of Tipp’s three Championship games last year, scoring 1-10, he was replaced in all of them.

Now 30, it remains to be seen if there is a way back into Bonnar’s plans for the Killenaule man but with such a short period between League and Championship with the new split season model, which also means that O’Dwyer will have limited scope to prove himself on the club scene, his chances of earning a recall this season may be limited.

Elsewhere, Bonnar has included the long-serving Patrick ‘Bonner’ Maher, who was sidelined last year by an Achilles tendon rupture, there are recalls for Denis Maher and Ger Browne while Dylan Walsh, Enda Heffernan, Conor Bowe and Conor Stakelum are first-time call-ups.

Tipp will operate in Division 1B in this year’s League alongside Laois, Kilkenny, Antrim, Dublin and Waterford and start their campaign away to Laois on Saturday, February 5.
