CHICAGO _ The sixth inning drilled the first and final nail in the White Sox's coffin in a 4-1 loss to the Red Sox at Guaranteed Rate Field on Tuesday night.
After White Sox right-hander Mike Pelfrey finished off five innings without sacrificing a run, reliever Anthony Swarzak came in and gave up all four runs. Josh Rutledge's RBI groundout and Pablo Sandoval's RBI single brought in Xander Bogaerts and Mitch Moreland in order. Christian Vazquez knocked out a double to drive in two more runs.
The White Sox's only run came during the second inning when Tim Anderson doubled home Avisail Garcia, who singled, stole second and advanced to third on an error.
Red Sox lefty Drew Pomeranz gave up seven hits, walked none and struck out eight over seven innings.
The White Sox had won four of their last six games going into Wednesday's series finale against the Red Sox at Guaranteed Rate Field. The teams had split the first two games, but the visiting team left with the series in the bag.
The White Sox were outscored 21-13 in the series.
