No phone for online study, Std XI pupil ends her life

NASHIK: A 17-year-old girl ended her life in a Hatrundi village of the Surgana taluka,110 km from Nashik city, on Sunday morning as her father could not buy her a cellphone.

The girl ended her life by hanging herself at her residence around 9. 30 am when no one was around. The Surgana police have registered a case of accidental death.

PI Sandeep Koli, of the Surgana police station, said the girl was a student of Class XI in an aided ashramshala in Alangun. However, since the ashramshala was closed, she asked her father to get her a cellphone to attend online classes.

The Surgana police said the family’s financial condition is not very good, and the gir was not given a phone. This frustrated the girl and took the extreme step. The case will be investigated further, said the Surgana police.

This is the second case of suicide by a student in the Surgana taluka. On January 1, an 11-year-old student of an ashramshala run by a private organisation at Shinde Digar too ended her life at the school.
