Okinoumi entered the ninth day of the Autumn Grand Sumo Tournament as the only undefeated wrestler, but his Monday didn't end perfectly.

The No. 8 maegashira was beaten by No. 5 maegashira Ryuden (4-5) at the Ryogoku Kokugikan in Tokyo, leaving Okinoumi tied with fellow rank-and-file wrestler, No.10 maegashira Meisei (8-1), who defeated No. 7 maegashira Kotoshogiku (4-5).

Goeido and Tochinoshin, the two ozeki who are both on kadoban status in which they need a majority of wins to avoid demotion, secured victories. Goeido (6-3) pushed out No. 4 maegashira Shodai (2-7), while Tochinoshin (4-5) instantly slapped down komusubi Endo (6-3).

Sekiwake Takakeisho (7-2), who is trying to regain the rank of ozeki after being demoted, pushed out No. 4 maegashira Tamawashi (5-4). Other wrestlers on two losses are sekiwake Mitakeumi and No.2 maegashira Asanoyama.
