No paddy centres in Telangana in rabi season

HYDERABAD: The state has decided not to set up paddy procurement centres (PPCs) in forthcoming rabi (yasangi) season. However, the government will continue to provide Rythu Bandhu and other benefits.

CM K Chandrasekhar Rao said at a press conference on Monday that farmers who cultivate paddy in the rabi season, would be doing so at their own risk. He said decision was taken as Centre gave up responsibility to buy boiled rice.

The CM said his government would buy every paddy grain in kharif season. “While the expected procurement in kharif season is 90 lakh metric tonnes, Centre has assured to buy 40 lakh MTs. We have procured 22 lakh MTs,” he said. The state cabinet gave nod for Rs 3 lakh to 750 farmers who died in anti-farm laws protest last year, sanctioning Rs 22.5 crore.
