'No option!' Former referee verdict on Leicester City vs Newcastle United decisions debate

Leicester City defeated Newcastle United 5-0 on Sunday in an devastating afternoon for the Magpies.

For the Foxes it was sublime as Ricardo Pereira, Jamie Vardy (twice), a Paul Dummett own goal and Wilfred Ndidi's late strike compounded the misery for Newcastle .

Despite goals aplenty, the discussion post-match has naturally surrounded some controversial moments in the game.

One of those included has been Isaac Hayden 's challenge on Dennis Praet which led to a red card for the Newcastle midfielder.

The other came when Jamie Vardy was not ruled offside for the second goal despite replays showing the call was tight.

Former referee Dermot Gallagher has since offered up his view on the incidents during his regular Ref Watch segment on Sky Sports.

Incident: Isaac Hayden's challenge on Dennis Praet.

Dermot Gallagher verdict: "Speed, intensity and point of contact, it's dangerous - it ticks all the boxes.

"The referee has no option whatsoever. I think when you see it he brings his foot up and puts his studs in just below his knee.

"When you see that, there is nothing else the referee can do. It ticks all the boxes for a red card.

"There is very little wiggle room for anything other than a red card. Once you bring your studs up like that, there is no defence."

Incident: Is Jamie Vardy onside for the second goal?

Dermot Gallagher verdict: "He was, just. It was a good call. Over the weekend we have seen some tight calls and the referees have done well."
