A pregnant woman went in for a routine ultrasound and came back to TikTok with proof of the internet’s favorite conspiracy theory. Her unborn baby looks exactly like her real-life furry baby. Maybe it was a coincidence.
Every to-be-parent looks for the first glimpse of their baby in those fuzzy black-and-white ultrasound images. But when the 29-year-old-to-be-mother, Inês Egner, posted her sonogram on TikTok, it wasn’t simply a picture of her baby’s tiny nose, small hands, or smile.
When Egner for her routine 20-week anatomy sonogram scan some time ago, the last thing she expected was to see a doppelganger of her dog in those photographs. “We were so excited for our anatomy scan. Only to get our photos back and realize our son looks remarkably like our dog,” she wrote before revealing the hilarious yet amazing pictures in the next slide.
And true enough, one of the sonograms looks uncannily like her four-year-old dog, Goulash. Maybe it was the lighting. But one thing’s for sure: No one can unsee it now. However, it was first noticed by her best friend, who went to the doctor’s visit with her.
“We were skimming through them together, the three of us, as you do, admiring the little hands, the little nose…until we came across that picture and my friend goes, ‘Wait, doesn’t the baby look just like Goulash?'” (via People)
Egner and her husband broke out in laughter and could immediately see what her friend was talking about. They remarked, “It’s hard to unsee the uncanny similarity after that.” To test their theory, Egner sent the photos to her family, and her father pointed out the same thing without her asking.
“I then sent the photos to my family via text, and my father, unprompted, actually said the same thing. He responded to that particular picture and said, ‘The baby looks like Goulash.'”
Afterward, it became almost like an anecdote among her circle. Luckily, she did not take any offense at these comments. Speaking out loud a truth everyone knows but nobody admits, Egner quipped how people are “meant to say your baby looks beautiful in the sonogram photos, that they look just like their parents and whatnot, but the reality is they are really ugly.”
Besides, every dog-parent loved to consider them their children, and the case wasn’t any different with Egner and her husband. “We do like to jokingly refer to the dog as our son, so it was just a fun time overall,” she revealed. TikTok, predictably, ran wild. However, the couple loved the reactions and believed Goulash would be a “doting big brother” to their baby.
Luckily, he has been the goodest boy even after the couple brought a cat home a year ago. “He loves to cuddle, he’s so gentle, adores everyone, and is never in a bad mood,” she revealed. Egner and Goulash have been inseparable since the latter was only 7 months old. He’ll soon turn five in December, prepared to have a little sibling.
