No new Covid-19 deaths reported at Salford Royal hospital for fourth day in a row

Salford Royal Hospital has reported no new deaths among coronavirus patients for the fourth day in a row.

The total number of patients who have died after contracting Covid-19 at the hospital has remained at 162 since Saturday.

It is the longest period in which no new fatalities have been reported at Salford Royal since the early stages of the pandemic in March.

The update was announced by NHS England today and does not mean that no patients have died within the last 24 hours, as there is often a delay in reporting.

NHS England figures reveal one Covid-19 death has been recorded at the hospital in the last week, on Friday the 15th May.

Separate statistics show that there are signs that the Covid-19 infection rate is slowing in Salford, with five new cases reported in the last two days.

It means that the infection rate in the borough is now 352 cases for every 100,000 people.

Across Greater Manchester, there were seven Covid-19 deaths reported on Wednesday, taking the total to 1,702.

These are only the deaths recorded by the NHS in hospitals, and do not include those who have died in care homes or in the community after being infected with coronavirus.

The number of deaths involving Covid-19 in the UK has passed 44,500, according to the latest available data.

Wednesday’s figures from the National Records of Scotland, showing that 3,546 deaths involving Covid-19 had been registered in Scotland up to May 17, follow figures on Tuesday from the Office for National Statistics that showed 39,071 deaths involving Covid-19 occurred in England and Wales up to May 8 (and had been registered up to May 16).
