No new Covid-19 deaths reported at Royal Bolton Hospital for the first time in four weeks

No new coronavirus deaths were reported at Royal Bolton Hospital for the first time in four weeks.

An update on Sunday from NHS England revealed that the total number of deaths at the hospital has stayed the same.

So far, 169 people have died at Royal Bolton from Covid-19.

Yesterday was the first time the hospital had reported no new deaths in more than a month as NHS staff battled to treat a wave of patients infected with coronavirus.

However, the latest update does not mean that no Covid-19 patients have died in the last 24 hours.

There can be a delay of up to several days before a death is announced as hospitals have to process the information before notifying NHS England.

There were 15 new deaths announced yesterday in Greater Manchester hospitals, taking the total to 1,366.

However, the figure is usually lower on a Sunday as there are fewer NHS staff working to process information.

The figure only reflects deaths in hospitals and not in other settings, such as care homes.

It is believed many more have died at care homes and in their own homes across the region.

So far, a total of more than 800 people have tested positive for Covid-19 in Bolton.

Across Greater Manchester, there was a large spike in the number of people confirmed as infected yesterday.

This sudden rise could be linked to an increase in the number of tests being carried out as part of the government's testing regime.
