No new coronavirus deaths in Scotland for 17th day but 31 new cases confirmed

There have been no new coronavirus deaths registered in Scotland for a seventeenth day, as 31 new positive cases are announced today.

The total number of positive cases is now 18,676, according to the latest Scottish Government released figures.

The number of patients getting treatment for confirmed or suspected cases of the virus in hospital is 265 - with three currently in intensive care.

The figures come after a cluster of 13 cases of Covid-19 was linked to a pub in Aberdeen.

Public health officials are investigating the new cases, which are associated with The Hawthorn Bar in the city centre.

Customers who visited the pub on Sunday, July 26 have since tested positive for the virus and are showing mild symptoms.

It also emerged on Friday that two more Scots had tested positive for coronavirus  after a cluster was identified in the Greater Glasgow and Clyde area.

This took the total to 13 and an Incident Management Team (IMT) is contacting anyone who may be affected.

The cases are linked to Inverclyde locations; M&D Green  pharmacy  in John Wood Street, Port Glasgow and Amazon in Gourock.

Health chiefs also confirmed that a case has a link to the  Sitel call centre  in Lanarkshire.

Elsewhere Scotland’s contact tracing strategy was branded a “total shambles” after it emerged an app vital to the battle with Covid-19 won’t be available until autumn.

Health leaders have already failed to launch a separate web-based programme to allow patients to list people they could have infected, which had been promised by June.

Now experts are developing a Bluetooth -powered app which will automatically trace individuals who might be at risk.
