No COVID deaths in Leeds for sixth day in a row - but Yorkshire records more fatalities

Yorkshire has once again recorded more coronavirus fatalities after five days of the death toll in the county remaining static.

Yesterday, Yorkshire celebrated the longest it had gone without a death since the first person succumbed to the virus in Yorkshire on March 17.

And while Leeds has now gone six days without a coronavirus death, the streak in Yorkshire has now come to an end with more deaths announced in the county by NHS England on August 19.

Out of the 15 people who died in England, three died in Yorkshire. That included one who died in a Bradford hospital and two patients in Sheffield hospitals who sadly lost their lives to the virus.

In total, the 15 people who died in England were aged between 56 and 93 years old and all had known underlying health conditions.

It means that a total of 2,588 have died in hospitals in Yorkshire from COVID-19 and across England, the total number of deaths in hospitals amounts to 29,480.
